Knowing how weak the 530i AC is you might want to check out this month's Roundel. Rob Sieger (sp?) "The Hack Mechanic" writes about installing AC into his CS Coupe.
He explains how there are plenty of companies (most in CA) that will build custom AC conpontents, which are far cheaper than ineffective factory stuff. I will be going down this road next summer.
The limiter in early 530's is the condensor and fan, they can not keep up with evaporator. There are 2 differences between the 528 and 530 AC.
1. The size of the consensor and cooling fan.
2. The AC controls in the dash are integrated into the rest of the HVAC system.
