your performance will deffinatly improve but as for the gas miliage i have to say from my 3.5 motronic it's worse. i average about 16 mi/gl. less when at full throtle the diving factor depends on weather you have a auto or 5 speed? with the 5 speed its much better gas milage than the auto, the time and hassel is not much compared to the improvement. i posted a message a week or two ago about the removel of the thermal reactors in these cars if you happen to live in california it's worth a look at. but if you can do it go for it. if you have any questions e-mail me i have done the 3.5 motronic switch 3 times on the e-12. there is a couple little things to look for. other than that its a direct swap. the big look out is the bell housing for the 3speed auto has to be swaped out for a motronic one you'l find the 733i from about 82' and 83' will have one that will fit the auto, also the flywheel if you don't have one needs to match the tranny and engine, i have done it so it can be done.
