: E28 528e unused for 8 years. Reworked the heads recently, new valves.

: Engine now fires but dies 3-5 seconds after. There is no reponse from the accelerator pedal. First thing I checked is the cold start valve. There seems to be no signal (12v) on the 2 wires that lead to it. Any suggestions? Again, thanks for the help.

Now I wonder why they call it an E12 Owners Bulletin Board...

Nevertheless, if the engine fires easily from cold then I'd say the cold start valve is Ok. My experience shows that these valves are
very reliable.

Two potential problem areas spring to mind initially

i) check the air flow meter is connected to the main engine loom. On the couple of occasions I forgot to re-connect it, my car exhibited the same symptoms as yours.

ii) check the injectors are working. This is easily said than done. They gum up really easily if 'fuel additives' are used in excessive quantities. gummed up fuel injectors can usually be freed up by striking them - but since the casing is soft they don't look o pretty afterwards.

Have fun!
