Had a similar series of problems last summer--with the car cruising along light engine load, it would cut out. The tach indicated normally, so ignition is OK. Sometimes the car would catch in a second; somitimes I'd coast to a stop, and the car would fire up immediately when cranked with the starter.
One friend suggested replacing the coil. I did, and it has only cut out once. I also replaced the ground cable from the battery. The braided strap to the body was really cruddy. I'm beginning to suspect a bad ground under the dash that fools the injection computer. The computer controls the fuel pump relay. Also when I turn the fan on high, the temperature gage changes. Not looking forward to that trip.
