: I have a 1981 528i. I love this car. It is an
: automatic and the automatic transmission is starting
: to go. It stays in 1st gear longer and longer in the
: morning - sometimes up to a mile before it shifts. I
: much prefer a standard transmission and have found one
: in a 1983 528e. It is a 5-speed. I would like to know
: if this transmission will fit into my 1981 528i and what
: other parts I may need as the clutch pedal, clutch
: istself are available on this 1983 528e. Thank you.

I did one on a 75 530i a long time ago and swore never again. At least, the clutch pedal and linkage the master cylinder and lines, the slavecylinder, the bell housing if it isn,t already on the transmission , the transmission itself, the entire driveshaft(it is a differentlength and you really need to keep the pieces together, the shifter and support for it, the cross member under the transmission is also differant but can be used if you drill new holes, the bearing support under the center bearing ,I think, is the same but measure the guibo joint in the front.Ithink it was differant. I can't think of anything else .I'd rather take your engine and put it in the other car.
