I left out a couple of points.
If you follow through with this, your car will be much faster, quieter, and will get much better fuel economy.
Also, you could try changing the A/T filter and filling it with Redline ATF to see if it get better. Perhaps that would help you live with it until you can collect all the parts for the conversion.
