Good luck on the head swap. The gas may not be bad, was the tank full or almost empty? If it was 1/2 full or greater, I would just throw and extra dose of Techron in there & run it. Pop the cap & see if it smells fresh, or if it has a tinge of turpentine smell. Anyway, I rebuilt my front calipers a couple summers ago with good success. Don't split the caliper halves unless they show signs of leaking. Easy job. Just use some compressed air to blow the pistons out. Watch your fingers, & wrap a towel around the caliper when you do this, or you will get a face full of brake fluid.

: Hi, guys.

: I'm about to start work on my '80, whose head cracked in
: February. I just parked the car, and it's been sitting ever
: since. What should I do to get her road-ready again?
: I know I should drain the gas tank, as it's been 7 months.
: Is there anything else I should watch out for before I fire
: it up?
: Second question: By brakes are soft. I think I have
: leaky front calipers. New/reman ones are too expensive
: for my current budget. I've seen rebuild kits, but have
: never attempted this kind of work before. Has anybody
: ever done one of these, and do you think I could do it?
: I consider myself quite proficient, and I'll be doing the
: headswap myself. Do you have to split the calipers for this?
: I've heard warnings against it. Any info is appreciated.
