Greetings to all of you Bimmerheads from Fiat land...
I found an abandoned 1980 528i/5spd recently and am considering acquiring the car, though
with some trepidation. To put it mildly, this car needs help. The body has some rust,
though none of it appears to be terminal. The right rear quarter needs help as do
the rockers (not too bad), but the floors all appear to be quite solid. The car
has some collision damage to the nose and will require at least a left front fender
and a good inspection to determine if the thing is bent and needs to spend time
on a frame straightener. No rot or dents in the doors/rear decklid.
The engine is minus one cylinder head and associated bits. The tranny/exhaust may be
described as present.
The interior is quite nice other than needing carpets - which really
aren't too bad, either. The dash is uncracked and all gauges
are intact. The seats are all quite presentable (beige leather). All door panels
are OK, all trim appears present an in nice shape. The car has an
electric sunroof and windows. All glass is OK. It also appears to have non-original
and very nice BMW TRX wheels and Michelins - good finish and few scuffs,
if any.
Should I run away, dive in, or grab the car, part it out, and ditch the hulk?
Thanks!
Chris
