: In the recent Roundel, there was an article about a company, Split second, that offers a replacement for our inefficient AFMs, namely a mass air meter. I checked out their web site (www.splitsec.com). I also almost fainted at the prices. Something $900 bucks for there mass air system. Granted that includes all of the following:
:
: ARM1 Air/fuel Ratio Meter
: ARC2 Air/fuel Ratio Calibrator
: MEGA Filter (full race).
: MAF3.5 Mass Air Flow sensor (flanged or non-flanged). Flanged shown.
: MAF Wire Loom
: MAF Gasket (flanged only)
: 3.5"-3.0" Reducer Assembly
: Mounting Bolts and Template
: M5 E28, M6 E24 Installation Instructions
: All this only gets you a claimed increase of 18 HP. I guess I'm just bringing this up to start yet another discussion of l-jet vs. motronic, vs, customizable fuel systems. What are your thoughts? Is this kit worth it? Can you think of alternatives? By the way, I'm not even sure this would work with our cars.
Greg,
I was contemplating purchasing a new fuel/ignition system for the B7 Alpina that I have
assuming of course I couldn't get the old system to function (lucky for me the car is now running!).
I've looked hard for a good simple easy to program system that include modifiable ignition/fuel advance curves
I think the best/cheapest system is the SDS EM2 at
http://www.sdsefi.com/
For the injection side it uses a simple MAP sensor to replace the AFM one on a standard car. This should increase
airflow considerably probably matching the increase of 18+hp --price is similar to the Split Second system but looks
much more upgradable (ignition/boost inputs).
Just my 02 cents worth....

Frank
