My schematics suck. Having said that, however, it appears that there is a wire from combo relay 86b to fuse 1. Could that be the dead-end wire? My print does not show plug #'s.
See if you have +12V on 88y of combo relay. I bet it's not there and Charlie's correct. Did you remove start relay? I looks like that's where old system picked up +12V for 88y.
I believe on 528i it ties to fuse 1 (should be unused on your car).

BTW did you install transistorized ignition? I'm wondering about pulse input to ECU terminal 1
