Well, I did in fact crack the head on my 80 528i when a heater hose broke.
My symptoms were:
oil in coolant
coolant in the oil
oil and coolant in the exhaust
lost and lots of steam in the exhaust.
I would start by replacing the radiator cap.
p.s. i replaced the head with a 77 530i's and no problems yet.
