I've tried posting this to the BMW Digest. A couple of people recommended that I try the e12 home page. I'm surprised (and pleased) that there's actually a group of people out there still interested in these cars!
I need help with the aux fan in my '76 530i. It's not currently working. I presume that it's should be going on when the ac is turned on - no luck. I've pulled the front grills off looking the the ballast (sp?) resistor, thinking that the resistor is probably burnt. However, I can't locate it. To date, the car is not running too hot. The temp gauge is usually at the 2/3 mark with the ac on in heavy traffic; it's pegged in the middle without the ac on. Does anybody know where it's located?
FYI - I checked with my local BMW dealer. He was able to find the resistor in the schematic for the car, but when he went to look it up in his parts list, the resistor is listed as "non-applicable" for my year car. He's confused (and so am I). Any thoughts or guidance will be greatly appreciated (especially since it's been fairly hot here in the sunny northeast the last month or so!).
