: First, thanks to those who responded to my e28 v. e12
: questions a couple weeks ago. I've got a followup regarding
: the 530i. I've noticed that in my area (Houston)530i's
: show up in the classifieds fairly often, but 528i's don't
: So my question is, if the cylinder heads have been replaced
: with an '81 or later, and assuming I can live with a four-speed,
: are there any problems with the 530 compare to the 528?
- more likely to be rusted bacuase of age, but also because the panels aren't the same as the late 528i, but considering your locale, probably not a huge problem there.
- You'll have to deal with the pre-lambda l-jetronic bosch fuel injection system with thermal reactors (poor mileage, starting, idling etc...,) etc There is however a great write up in our technical FAQ explaining how to convert to the later style lambda set up
- There are some styling difference, mirrors etc.. maybe a plus depending on your view
- An advantage is that your engine block is 3.0 liters. Just a hair larger than the 2.8 liter block, however, the 3.0 liter block can be bored out significantly to 3.5 liters if thats something your interested in.
Thats all I can think of for right now, I'm sure others will add. Good luck in your hunt.
