Vavle clearance should not be any tighter than 10 or 25(metric) or looser than 12 (30 metric) In my opinion if the vavle train makes noise at 12 its probaly wore out . The looser the valves the better the engine will run if the valves are to tight it will stubble at idle especialy when cold and if to tight it will burn a valve (my buddy with e 12 m535 did this) Valve clearance is the same for your cam . (shrick 292) I had a brand new out of the create 3.5 we put in a bavaria a couple of years ago set the valves at 12 and it ran like poop. My boss listened and said set the vavles at 14 > since he signs the checks and has been around the block several times I did it and man did that thing run smooth. after a couple of months set them at 12 (after the valves had set in ) and no noise and ran smoother than any big six I have ever seen.Dis you have a valve job done ? did you use new rockers and new shafts. If these items are worn they will cause noise . Another thing are you mistakeing injector noise for valve clatter have seen this several times . How do you set your valves? I only set mine stone cold and on each cyl. when the lobes are completely down. Don't goto syth oil so soon the engine won't have had enough time to break all the way in . Sounds like a really cool motor should be fun
