Changing to synthetic on a used transmission won't get you any kudos from Steve Dinan. It wore in on a heavier oil and thinner oil will speed the destruction of the gearbox. This was all out of a tech session I set up at Dinan as the local CCA chapter technical director in 1990.

| So what did they suggest? Mobile One is the only non-GL5 I could find that was available, and I am not very happy with it. It is 80W-90W, so not sure about the "thinner" part. It definitely will find the escape protals in any seals. |

The rule as I recall was to put in what the factory designed it for.
