Car of the Month - December 2002

Cars of the Month

The Car of the Month for December belongs to:
Garry Pruter

"I like to refer to my car as the car with an identity crisis. The car is originally a 1977. But with its numerous modifications and upgrades it's really hard to determine what year it should actually fall under."

"I started out about nine years ago wanting to restuff the front seats of the car as the horse hair stuffing was giving out and the seats didn't feel comfortable anymore. Since then, here are a few of the things I can remember that have been modified."

Front and rear seats are from both 7 & 5 series bimmers.

Reuphosltered: facia, Glove box, center console, refabricated door panels front and rear, fronts have custom speakers insalled. New carpet and headliner. Steering wheel wrapped in leather to match. Hand brake console from a 5 series e-28. Rear set headrests added. Trunk is carpeted all around.

Stereo: Mb Quartz speakers (8) throughout. Tweaters intalled in door mirror triangle, 6 disk cd changer, precision power amp, Pioneer head unit, raptor alarm. Sound deading material installed.

Wood trim: door panel pieces all relaminated. Instrument cluster custom fabricated, ash tray face laminated with veneer as well as console area around gear knob, steering wheel center area, around the windows trimmed in wood also, handbrake handle, door lock knobs.

Bumpers: euro bumpers from a 1985 e-28 custom fitting (a lot of work), Zender aero kit for a e-28 which fit very easily.

Wheels: ordered from The Tire Rack back 1n 1996(M syle). Nitto tires 215x55x16 all around.

Bilsteins(sport) front and rear , Suspension techniques springs. Larger size sway bar in front.

Engine: bored the throttle body, new air flow system, new air conditioner unit, new radiator, polished manifold, painted valve cover M-colors, new altenator (160 amps), larger cranking battery.

I am sure there are a few items that I have over looked and I am still not quite 100% finished. But I do enjoy driving my car as it handles and performs nicely for a 25 year old sedan and still manages to raise an eyebrow every once in a while. It all started out innocently with just wanting to restuff the front seats.
