I have a 1979 528i 5 speed transmission. Probably will put it in once the weather gets better. curious as what clutch options i have and what you guys recommend? I have plans for FI in the near future so having something a little beefier would be better. Any thoughts?

Everything died when you turned on the headlights and stayed that way when you turned them off? That's easy, it's the connections at the battery. Remove, clean both sides and both terminals, and reinstall. I don't care if they look ok, do it. Get it down to shinny metal. That'll fix it.

Yes your right, the alternator light would not be lit if it's being charged correctly.

The ignition control module may be mounted on the RH side beside the windshield washer bottle.
I say 'may' because this is where it's located on an '80 model but I can't imagine BMW relocating these very far ...

I'd also look at the Voltage Regulator on the back of the alternator. It may be worn down to far.

Perhaps your ignition control module or main/fuel pump relay may be starting to fail if it's not the voltage regulator.

if its barely rubbing then i would just roll the fenders. This is a common technique for E36 and E46 for bigger or a lower offset wheels. I had 225/55/16 on once to test fit it and it was rubbing. So i rolled them and not they do not make any contact what so ever.

On second inspection, i realized it could also be a flasher. Do you have a turn signal on? Signal on and a burnt out bulb would cause a fast click.

O wow im sorry to hear that.

Believe it or not it was a bad low beam relay that cause the problem. I guess the insides where corroded. But yea changed out the relay and the problem havent came back up since. Cheap replacement!!

I spoke with Bilstein a while back.

They explained that the lifetime warranty is for the original buyer. If you can prove that your father is just that, they should fix it.

Otherwise, my understanding is that they will rebuild the shock, but you pay for it. I believe that a rebuild is about $75 ...
