Engine swap and manual tranny conversion

Post by lazytv »

Folks

Have a line on a 85 735 engine with manual gearbox with 210000km on it. I'm going to start collecting the parts I'll need. I've read through the swap process and although daunting I'm a sucker for punishment.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It would help immensely if you say which car you want to install the engine in?
I'm guessing in the '81 528i, but it's just a guess!

That would work quite well and you could do a motronic conversion on it at the same time. Biggest hangup is you would need to install a speedo drive in the transmission. Not that big a deal, but you would need to get the parts which are expensive new. You can use the ones out of a Getrag 262 4 speed though and those transmissions are generally cheaper.

The driveshaft and rear trans crossmember from the automatic should work with a 265 in an e12. The 7 series ones won't work. I think the guibo is different too. I have the center console for manual trans if you need one.
