Looking into the combustion chamber
It's not chipped is it? You know, Murphys law would be that you would get the only chipped ECU in the yard when you didn't want it. Carbon can build up fast, in just a few thousand miles, but not all that heavy. Have you tried different brands of gas? Even with the same number some react differently than others.

I am running a stock 179 BMW ECU, without a chip. I have a spare that I opened, but I don't see any adjustability in there (some had switches).
Seems that it would be ideal to richen my mixture a bit at WOT and retard the timing a hair. Not exactly sure how one does that in my situation.

I don't think you can't do anything in a nice way, except fooling the lambda (if you have it) and moving the ignition hall sensor a bit.
The better solution would be a custom firmware (chip).
