The owner's manual specifies Bosch WR9DS (S for Silber) to never stray for 25 years. Now I accidentally acquired a proper set of NGK, with a good review here and seeing NGK sponsors F1. Whoa. Toot, toot.

Ordering the Bosch WR9DS, The Autoparts Warehouse site gets all excited with the product description saying, " For high performance racing, not street use, as pooping over to the grocery will foul the plugs and cause them to crap out early. (Something like that.)

Not to mention piles of choices cost $6.95 each while the Silbers cash out at $13.95. Not that I need plugs that often.

What's the skinny on the product description blabby ?

Wow. That's a large price. I need to replace mine with the cap and rotor and valve adjustment that are somewhat overdue...

And then Arizona Autohaus has them for $3.97. THEIR note says "unscrewable end". I haven't seen those, but if that is true, I can't use them with those orange connectors on my wires. Maybe that's why they are cheap?

Oh, so there are super plus and silber? OK - well I don't know what is up with the description, but most places don't seem clear. Super plus and silber... are they both "WR9DS" but one is more expensive with silver? I hope someone can clear this up. I'm confused.

On my 1980 528i, I had always used the WR9DS plugs and they were great.

Then I purchased a '79 that had new WR9DC+ in them, and decided to just leave be. Things were fine enough. Then I swapped in WR9DS 15,000 miles later with cap and rotor. Big difference. I don't expect to notice so easily when I replace reasonably fine plugs with new.

To say the proper plug is "too racey" or can't be used for normal driving is crap. It's true they are comparatively expensive: I pay about $6.50 a pop for them ($13 is a joke, who's charging that?) but they last a while, what's $40 in plugs now and again?

For me, this issue is similar to the octane issue. Yeah, it'll run fine on 87. But it'll complain a tad and fall flat when I rev over 5000. If I run 89, it pulls all the way to redline, no pinging. Yeah, 89 costs a little more, but it's worth it to me, especially if I'm going to drive hard.

The name of the Bosch spark plug is WR9DS. Exactly that.

Auto Parts Warehouse (on the web) wants 13.95 each, including the strange product description.

I've not stopped by NAPA or O'Reilly, assuming they don't stock them.

If anyone has a source for the $ 6.95 price, I'm all ears. The Autoplicity site is amusing. 35 available, ten bucks less each than Auto Parts Warehouse, oops, except for the teeny type that says out of stock, back ordered, go fish.

Try Blunttech. Looks like a 5 spot for silvers, verify it's the right one but it looks like it. Or less for copper or NGK.

Haha. I did not notice the small print at the Autoplicity site - sketchy looking site anyway. Rock Auto also has them for $3.85 and that is a good place to buy from.
