Is the brake pedal height adjustable? My brake pedal sticks out about an inch past the clutch and it's further out than any that I can remember. TIA.

Yes, the height is adjustable. Google search BMW E12 brake pedal adjust to find how to's on other forums. It involves dropping the kick panel, locating the pedal linkage and loosening a jam nut.

Testing that the pedal works, doesn't go over top dead center as you adjust it.

Pretty simply, you remove the kick panel and find the clevis for the brake booster (attaches to the pedal with a pin). There's a jam nut behind the clevis (17mm IIRC). Loosen that, then rotate the shaft until the pedal drops. You will have to adjust the brake light switch too.

thanks. I've run out of adjustment, so I may have to have the pivot piece shortened and retapped. It's a real hodge-podge of a system.

I was just doing something similar i think.

I was checking my car out and noticed a lot of play in the acceleration pedal. I got underneath the steering wheel and checked the linkage noting that the rubber bushings had worn out and broken away on the rod from the accelerator pedal.

I decided to put some hose in the meantime to act as a bushing, I did this from the engine bay looking down on to the master, you see the acceleration pedal rod traversing it. It has a jesus clip and an 8mm nut holding the rest of the lingage together.

That right there has an adjustment.

I know this because when i put everything back together, my pedal was sticking out a bit more than it used too.
