Trunk lid panels

Between the two large gray panels, under the tool drop down, is a small panel.

Behind which are two plastic pegs that push in,...to...

Just holes drilled in the trunk steel ? Or are there plastic female plastic things that are screwed into the lid first,...

That are missing, don't appear on realoem.com parts drawings or any photos, to inspire the inquiry.

I looked. I have original grey foam padding under the tool kit so I dunno.
I suspect the plastic plugs just snap into holes in the inner metal panel of the trunk. That's how fasteners are mounted elsewhere.

IIRC you twist the retaining strap to insert it into the slot in the bottom of the trunk, no screws or snapping in.

He's not talking about the tray, rather in the arched area beneath the tray, there's a small panel that I've only ever seen on E24s and never on an E12.

Perhaps it's been noted over the twenty plus years I have three of these things. Two 12's and a 24. Another three having returned to the Earth from which they came.

But not totally. They left parts. One of which is the little gray vinyl covered panel in question. It sat on a shelf for two years, to make me see it, think I should do something with it, perhaps put it where it should be ?

A 633 has that panel pushed into holes in the trunk lid. Both 528i's have holes drilled in the lid, too small for the plastic pegs to fit. The fact that there are four small holes drilled in the trunk inspires my imagination to visualize screw in plastic receivers, four little screws, into which the vinyl panel is fastened.

For the Pebble Beach Concourse all points committee choice award. Otherwise, a drill bit the size of the pegs and a fist punch got the panel off the shelf, onto the trunk lid, far less visible for creating disorganizational sress.

I've been through this when I found one of those on an E24 in the yard. There isn't any factory way to install it on the E12 as they weren't used on there.

Here's a shot of the tool kit in an E24. Note the curved piece below the kit.

Here's a shot of an E12 toolkit. Note how the piece is missing.
