Hello evryone, I have a 80 528i I am trying to get running after sitting for months. Before I put it away it would periodically not want to start, typically when warm. Usually let it sit for half an hour and would fire up, inconvenient but not so much to warrant repair at the time. Fast forward maybe 6 months. Car turns over but doesn't catch. Took the plugs put and cleaned them, have spark. Read into the combo relay and trying playing with the AFM door, no click when opening. Fiddled a bit and got it to give signal. Going to replace the combo relay for good measure. Is there a way to clean the AFM? I don't believe it's making a good contact internally.

Btw, it ran good for an hour yesterday after playing with it, even drove it to work and back. Today it when I read into checking th AFM.

I had a similar situation with my E12 based 635.There is an induction coil in the distributor that caused my issue.

Got it running again. Seems the AFM is going out. Going to have to pick one up and should be good to go.
