just curious if this could be done. I was told that the transmission that I have on my car (5-speed getrag, unaware of the model#), could be paired with a m106 motor with minimal modification... please lmk what you guys have in mind.

Sure, a M106 is just an M30 with a turbo on it. At least from the outside.
