Output Flange

Hi All,

Recently went on expressway and when I reached 75-80 mph a violent drumming/banging noise occurred from underneath. Let off on the gas pedal and it stopped, then accelerated again to see if it would repeat and it happened again.
Started troubleshooting with the blue mechanics manual and came across very similar description of problem under the propeller shaft troubleshoot page suggesting "output flange has axial play".

Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and fix?

Input always appreciated!

Hard to tell without feeling it first hand, but sounds like it could be the center support bearing.

Don't think that's it because I had that checked last year for of a vibration I get at 25mph when engine is cold, but told it was ok.

Thanks.

Center support would be my guess also, but you're just going to have to crawl under there and take a look. I bought an E28 one time that had one of the guibo bolts missing, more likely it would be broken though. Horrible vibration, but don't recall if it was constant or under load. But if it's banging, that sounds like the center support.

Thanks Mike, will have to revisit that center support again then.
