A couple of days before my radiator gave up the ghost, I tried to use my car to boost the freshly re-built hotrod I'd put together for one of my clients. I was mighty surprised when it wouldn't turn over a motorcycle (granted it's a 2 litre motorcycle, but it starts the 2.8 just fine). I checked the alternator output and it was nil. I managed to continue starting and driving the car without issue until the rad failure a few days later.
In looking at the wiring, the FAQ and the manual, the symptoms seem to point to a defective dash light (no light key on/engine off, no light running, no light key off/engine off - no light at all). After having a hell of a time with the car lately, I'm really hoping it's a simple bulb replacement and not an alternator rebuild or replacement.
I haven't taken apart the dash to get to the light yet so I have no idea what kind of bulb it is. Anyone have the dash bulb details? Does it have to be a BMW bulb or can I get it at a local autoparts emporium?
