Its actually really easy to build a custom cage if you can weld and read a tape measure. I helped a friend build one for his Nissan 240sx drift car. It really stiffens up the chassis like you wouldn't believe. Just make sure you find a rule book for the type of racing if any you plan to do so you can build the car to specs. When i took a chassis/welding class my teacher told me about how really cars remove the fenders and panels and weld the seams that are spotwelded. This makes the car incredibly rigid. This is an alternative to a cage if stiff is what your going for.
