Perhaps I misunderstand your comment. If the top lever is shorter, or the bottom lever is longer (to attain a shorter throw on the upper lever), then the pressure required to move the upper lever is increased. In my mind, this would put more pressure on the shift tower bolts.

However, I do understand that water flowing down a drain South of the Equator goes in the opposite direction, so perhaps other laws of physics are also affected.

Also, at my advanced age, the cardinal rule of knowledge holds true. "I have forgotten more about physics than I ever knew" or something like that. Knock on wood....
