Several years ago, there was an article in the Roundel about a 1600 with an M5 engine in it. I think the swap was done by Korman. The M5 engine is a close cousin of the M30. It it will fit, then the M30 will fit too. You might try to track down the old Roundel article for more information.

I do remember that there was a good bit of welding in the back of car to reinforce the rear suspension and mounts. I think they used an E12 diff as well.
