Really rough start

My '81 M535i with only 40K miles typically runs perfectly. Recently (November) had a valve job done and all fluids replaced. Seemed to run fine as usual after. But I don't drive it too often. Anyway, since the beginning of the holidays this is the scenario: runs great once warmed up, but barely starts and very poor once started (like only a few cylinders are actually firing) at first start. If really cold, actually does a little better (I think because the cold start valve helps out some), but after a minute or two and before temperature is up to normal operating temp., I can barely keep it running--have to give it a lot of throttle just to keep it running (still low RPMs because so few turnovers seem to actually ignite fuel). If I can get it started and up to about 2-2.5K RPMs will hang in there, but can't really do much else until warm. Any obvious thoughts? Of note, a lot of moisture / condensation noted in engine bay (stored in non-climate controlled garage) when problem first started.
