Sam,
It is very important for us to support both the e12 and e28 owner equally at 5er Fest. I believe that if you talk with any e12 owner you know who attended 5er Fest 2005, you'll find that they felt very much welcome. Trophies were awarded to owners of both; the only car owner who won two trophies drove an e12. Although there will almost always be more e28 than e12 cars at any given gathering of 5er's, there's no less attention given to them.
The organizers of the event in which you're referring to (actually the second 5er Fest) did their best to provide this support to all 5er owners. In San Diego/2004, the same open arms were extended to all owners driving BMW e12 cars. Last year in Greenville, we had more e12 owners and cars show up than we had hoped for!
On the financial note, bottom line, is that our event does not depend on BMW CCA or local chapter funding:
The 2004 event had next to or nearly zero support from the local BMW CCA chapter. At the 2005 event, the only support we asked for and received from our host chapter (Peachtree) was the use of their autocross equipment and two of the chapter's people who could operate the timing gear for us. Nothing more. This year, in South Bend, we're not asking for anything more from the host chapter, Windy City, than what we did last year -- just the use of equipment and operational staff for the autocross.
So, Sam, why don't you give it another chance? This year's event in South Bend is another bargain for an event like this! You'll get as much out of it as you want, and then some. And tell some of your fellow e12 owners to meet you there!
