Before parking my 80 528i, I installed an older main pump because the other was leaking. The replacement whines like it's in need of cheese at a party but it works wonderfully. Since there are two types of main pumps, either works, could the newer style have been made better? I have the larger one in now. The smaller one definitely was not as loud. It's not the prepump either that is making the noise.
