Folks,
I too have had my share of frustrations with the L-jet, same vintage, same style AAV. I replaced mine with a new one from JAC and improved the cold start cycle. It's not 100% but I've been told due the age of our vehicles it's not going to be perfect. I can live with that.
Performance is a different story... Although it has improved gradually (thanks to my friend Don Daynes), it's still not where I'd like it to be. Perhaps another $500 will do??? I don't know, that's when frustration hits anyone.
A synthesized long story:
- Car did not pass smog (long time ago)
- diagnosed with cyl head problems (burnt valve?), others bad cat.
- opted to have cyl head rebuilt,
- installed rebuilt head
- had valves adjusted by pro(supposedly)at shop
- had idle and mixture adjusted to pass smog, still failed
- E12 running shitty.
- Friend Don Daynes offered help
- Checked all FI components
- Opted to have injectors rebuild (1st big improvement)
- Replaced plug wires (2nd big improvement)
- Fine tuned fuel mixture (AFM)
- Passed smog test... happy face :o)
- BUT still lacks the kick.
I don't expect my Five to run as my 97-I30, however can't really feel those 169 ponies.
I feel a restriction when I put the pedal to the metal (1st thru 3rd gear), 4th & 5th... I'm crusing.
Perhaps my cat is bad ??? and causes such restriction, and with a bad tranny... I have opted to let it sit. I'm waiting for the mercy of Uncle Sam again to have some mula and do my next improvements.
However your input is valuable.
Jeremy, check those plug wires.
