Ditto to David and Mark about these being tough engines. Local guru says that often even when an engine needs a valve job the bottom end is fine and will last till a second valve job is needed.
Start with Frank's advice and run the car enough to free things up. Mine gets a little cranky after sitting around a few days, but it's fine if used every day...
