Haven't gone to r134a...yet

I did change to an r12 substitute(which need only a few new different connectors to accept the new gas),first to fr12 and then evacuated that when I heard it is hard on hoses.After the fr12 I used another r12 sub,which has done a good job (4 degrees centigrade at the dash vent).
You are right about the r134a not working with the old drier.By staying away from r134a and using standard Behr stuff I have kept things in check.I did have to replace all the refrig pipes near the engine ,due to age and heat the originals had become really soft.
