Many of them aren't legal for auto use in this county - some contain propane or butane in their blends. And a lot of AC shops won't service cars containing the stuff in fear of contaminating their recycled R12 stock.
One of the problems is that most of these subs are blends. If there is a leak, I'm told the highest vapor pressure consituent will leak out first, changing the blend - making it impractical to 'top off' a system. In theory it's illegal to add refrigerant to a known leaking system, but I wonder what the reality is when a car is 1/2 lb down.
Does that match your experience?
Most of what I've heard about it is 3rd hand at best.....
