Hey Mark, I can't answer the question about the appearence difference. But To change the speedo you'll need to pull the gauge cluster. Drop the bottom dash cover. You'll need to pull the bolts holding the steering colunm. If you try to skip this step you won't be able to clear the steering wheel as you remove the gauge cluster. Look up under the dash, you should be able to see a connection in the speedo cable. then there is a cable securing the gauge cluster. Loosen the thumb wheel on the cable. After you carefully pop the gauge cluster out of the dash, you should be able to disconnect the wire connectors. Good luck
