I can't speak to the mechanics, but your concept is interesting. What will be your source for parts and how much are those mufflers? The '81 front muffler sounds like the resonator that I have for my '85 Euro 635 (about a foot long and 2 in/2 out)...are they the same? Tell us what the system sounds like when you get it in!
