I think the part numbers are different.....Although I don't really know why!
The 75-76 cars take different shocks (ft & Rr) than later 77+ E12. The fronts I know are different through conversations with Wietse (the front struts housings are different) As for the rears? Maybe it has to do with the shape of the shock tower or the length it sligthtly different.
Being I have sets at home for 75-76 cars AND sets for 77+ cars I suppose I could go check them out to see..
