Hello Fellow Fivers,
As the 79 528i was accelerating to speed the engine just quit, no chug chug etc. Then it started right back up using the key. The alternator light was dim and the preset stations on the stereo were lost, but all the fuses look good.
My theory is that the battery was not charged enough to simultaneously run the engine and the stereo due to worn brushes. I will replace the brushes and the ignition switch assembly. Is there anything else to check?
Also looking for an automatic transmission.
