I will third the opinions below. The std. Bosch system is as good as most aftermarket systems. I have also been told this by a long time BMW mechanic/racer.
However I recommend a good set of wires (Bosch or Magnecor), new cap and rotor and new Bosch Siber (if you want to spend the money) or Bosch Super plugs (almost as good) and finally make sure that all the connections and grounds in the ign system are good, tight, and clean.

I think the money for an aftermarket ignition system could be spend better elsewhere (assuming your stock system is in good shape).

I tried a Jacobs system on my '80 and it ran noticably worse. The only time I have found that the Jacobs system has shown an improvment was when I put it on a breaker-points system ('79 320i).
