I've got a 77 530i, which caught my attention; however,
I'm the original owner without experience in used
purchasing. However, these cars are awfully old and
don't seem to sell for more than a couple thousand,
in general. I would search through the archives on
this site for people selling to get an idea of
what to expect for you money. A bad solenoid could
be possible and means the start motor would probably
need replacing; that would probably be in the $100
to $200 range, new. Since it sounds like the problem
is in needing to turn the engine for starting, the
starter motor is a good bet for the problem.
