IMHO, cutting the rear shelf to install speakers is not a good idea for two reasons.
First, it is a tube that is a structural member to stiffen the rear of the car.
Second, the tube also serves as the air channel to the C-pillar vents on either side of the car. Cut or plug the channel, and your flow-through ventilation is history.
