Beware of cars that have sat around for a while. Not a good thing
with these engines, let alone some of the other parts that rust and seize
up from lack of use. There are many engine nightmares that may await you
including fabled bad rings and bad compression one (new engine time) as well as
a bunch of other things. One thing I didn't account for in my 528i that had
sat for about 18 months was seized brake calipers. Turned out to be not that
expensive, but I wasn't planning on it on the Sat afternoon when I took everything
apart to do new pads and rotors. Rear caliper seals are bad also.
So, in retrospect, I'd rather have a car that has been driven and maintained
currently then a car that was a "geniune creampuff" when it was parked several
years ago. That creampuff could be a nightmare of parts that don't want to wake
up after being asleep so long.
