It took 44 pages just to swap engines without rebuilding one to boot. We couldn't even agree on how to remove the engine !

Everything I have read is that the lower end of these engines are built to incredible tolerances. are extremely robust and will last for 300 to 400k miles with proper maintenance. The machine shops have a hard time holding BMW tolerances, Thus it is cheaper to look for a good used engine. BMW's are being wrecked daily.

I had the head rebuilt with a 3 angle valve job. A special cam in California is a nono so we did not even try.

Having read the Grassroots dyno articles it looks like the route to power is thru the exhaust system and thru later model chipable motronics 220hp+. At which point the differential hanger will probably twist free from the trunk!
