It really depends on that.
If you have the 79 dist, you should have advance and retard; advance through green thermo valve, retard straight from throttle. See my throttle FAQ for locations of advance and retard ports on throttle; I'm too burnt to remember my name right now (1 1/2 days of AC and heater control hell)....
