: I have been thinking about adding a Strut Tower Cross Brace, but I am Curious about a couple of things.
The way your friend made one for his Bavaria employs triangulation to make it stronger. Excellent for the race track, could be questionable for the street. By attaching it to the firewall, you may possibly increase your chance of being injured in a front end collision. (It takes away the crumple zone.) That is a risk you would need to assess for you and your passengers.
The version with tie-rods is widely used by a lot of companies, but others have said that if it isn't a rigid bar, it doesn't help with shock tower flex.
My opinion (and take it for what it is worth) is that one with the tie-rod type connection is better than none at all, but not as good as one that is rigid.
