: If you plan on driving the beast hard and often(and who doesn't?) I would highly recommend the following parts and procedures -if you need it to be BULLETPROOF for daily transportation:

trans mount rubber
flex coupling on transmission (guibo)
NEW OE BMW battery cables + -(really they're better!)
motor mounts (BOTH!)
and the standard air/fuel/oil/tune up parts.

FREE PREVENTION:
lubricate ALL throttle linkage (good thick CV joint grease -MOLY-is recommended -I buy it in 2 lb tubes! - (I'm trying to help so no jokes OK?)
OK joke away...
get a six pack of your favorite beverage, and some fine 600 or so sand paper and CLEAN ALL THE wire connectors you can find-
very anal, very tedious -but worth it!

Also make sure that the alternator bushings are GOOD (not mashed jelly bean like things smeared into the brackets.) Urethane is awesome for this application! replace ALL hoses, belts, and consider a new water pump (GET NEW water pump bolts for it too - don't ask why - trust me!)

shift linkage and bushings (even OE type) will make it much more pleasant and solid feeling too!

All said and done this shouldn't cost too much in parts (less than a single tow truck bill!) and all can easily be installed by the "do it yerselfer"
on a limited budget.
My daily driver is 26 years old - and if it couldn't get me to work (70 miles) EVERY day - I'd never hear the end of it! (it's a pride thing!)

good luck!
