: I experienced something similar, although not to the degree you mention. The proble with mine was that the air flow meter was sticking; I removed it and filed down the interference (the flap was rubbing on the inside) and then WD40'd it. The problem went away and hasn't come back.

I also found the air flow meter door sticking on my car, but at the low end, so my symptoms were at idle and transition off idle. Cleaned up the sticking with fine sandpaper wedged between the door and housing, worked it back and forth till there was just a little drag (with the sandpaper in). Pulled the sandpaper out, blew out the dust, and the air flow meter runs freely.
