Stock E12s (not including 75 or 760 530) have two manifolds that are connected at the center which drop into one down pipe. Bavarias and others have two manifolds which drop into seperate downpipes. I'll try to draw it in ASCII

So the theory is that with two manifolds the gases and heat escape from the cylinder head more quickly, thus producing more horsepower (hopefully)
